Hi, my name is Brooks and I’m an audio engineer.
As a student of the Jacob’s School of Music’s Recording Arts program, I’ve had the opportunity to record and provide live sound reinforcement for a number of groups ranging from classical to rock ‘n roll. My time as a student has also allowed me to hone my skills in outside interests, including a passion for podcasting and digital media.
While a large part of my experience has been in live performance or studio recording, I’ve developed a strong interest in live streaming technologies and media produced specifically for web distribution. The flexibility of the platform and ability to reach a limitless audience is a clear indicator of the future of content consumption, and I want to be a part of it.
I would invite you to take a look at a selection of the projects I have engineered, as well as my complete resume. If you have any questions, comments, or needs for contracted audio work, please feel free to contact me via brooks [at] brooksguthrie [dot] com.

SUMMARY
As a student pursuing a degree in Recording Arts from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, I have been presented with a number of unique opportunities to blend traditional recording techniques with modern technologies and digital content distribution. The program is at the forefront of live video streaming and digital concert archiving and has allowed me to explore the cutting edges of audio, video, and information technology in a guided, established setting that reinforces skills learned in the classroom. The deep integration of the Recording Arts program within the music school has allowed me to work on many performances that combine these fields. Participation in audio crew, totaling over 150 hours of hands-on experience a year, has given me the opportunity to lead the mix for the recording or live sound reinforcement of many ensembles including IU Wallarab and Allen Jazz bands, the African American Arts Institute’s Soul Revue, the collegiate premier of A Light in the Piazza, and The Most Happy Fella.
As an audio production assistant I work closely with an advanced concert archiving system that manages over four terabytes of recorded audio and video each semester. This system’s use of metadata is on par with professional archival schemes, and was presented for other audio professionals at the 124th Audio Engineering Society conference.
I believe that an internship will give me an opportunity to focus and further develop the skill-set I have acquired thus far as a student in a new environment, as well as gain a further understanding of the industry which cannot be taught in the classroom.
